Hi folks, welcome to my blog. I’m a software engineer (and part-time/hobby scientist) based in Scotland, and have been plying my trade for quite a number of years now.

Why am I writing? This is an experiment - I’ve never written blogs or articles before, and I don’t do social media. In part it is to raise my profile in the market (yup, marketing gets everywhere). It is also to put some of the things I care about out there - to make a statement about stuff to a wider audience than my colleagues and friends. As my friends will attest, I can be very opinionated on some software engineering topics - in the posts I’ll try to explain why. The topics will be fairly random, but generally in the realms of software engineering or science.

The writing itself is something I’m looking to practice, so will be putting out short posts fairly regularly. If you like it (or not), let me know - it’s a learning experience for me. We’ll see how far I get before running out of things to say. There may be some repetition as some topics will likely mix together a bit.
